Product Description The band's second helping of punk-flavoured pop and desperate teenage rock 'n' roll finds them channeling new sounds while still retaining the pop punch and multi-layered guitar crunch of their debut. Review Really good singing and actual grooves and hooks make this punky pop near perfect. --RoctoberThis is an impressive record, obviously crafted by experienced and talented musicians who aren't afraid to progress beyond the trap of easy pop-punk songs. --Edmonton SunUltimately, Running With Scissors is not wildly different from their debut, but the sound is cleaner; and while for some bands that would spell death to the DIY ethos, the Checkers preserve their initial gutter-punk-with-a-melody-of-gold-image. --The Big Takeover About the Artist The Checkers are a female-fronted L.A.-based quartet who have been compared to the Rezillos, Nikki & The Corvettes, Blondie, the Avengers, and the year 1979. This review could be aimed at a lot of bands, but this had the misfortune of coming on my CD player right after X-Ray Spex. The Checkers play catchy inoffensive girl-fronted punk rock, not too different from the aforementioned legends. Only they lack the attitude, enthusiasm, saxophone and overall creativity. What you're left with is catchy pop-punk songs. There's nothing particularly wrong with any part, the singer sings well, the songs aren't bad, but everything is overdone and trite. After a few songs about love, halfway into the album they're singing about how rebellious and rude they are. No you're not! These guys sound like they play punk rock because, "I don't know, it's easy".
